About Us

We are New Kent 4 Amateur Radio, a fully documented and FCC licensed Amateur Radio Club in New Kent County, VA.  On April 29, 2008 this small group of dedicated radio amateurs signed the Constitution and By-Laws forming our club, first of its kind in the county. The documents state we are a support group for Emergency Communications via the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) or the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) in New Kent County, VA and surrounding areas. This is not to be understood that we will infringe on other groups’ territories, but that we simply support the efforts of these organizations. Our ARES members are part of Capital District Six of Virginia ARES/RACES. Our RACES operations are dedicated to New Kent County as part of their county plan. The ARES Emergency Coordinator for Kent County is also the Radio Officer for New Kent  RACES, reporting directly to Chief Tommy Hicks of Emergency Services. Charles City County , which has very few amateur radio operators is under the same ARES EC, therefore our services are extended to that area as well. The NK4AR license is posted and used to identify the New Kent County Amateur Radio EOC, currently located at the New Kent County Fire Station #1 on North Courthouse Road in Providence Forge. There are HF, VHF, and UHF communications capabilities from that location for communications to the county EOC , shelters, and the state EOC at VDEM.

Our meeting location is also at Station #1 at 4315 North Courthouse Road . Meetings are required quarterly, but are normally held monthly, on the second Monday of the week at 7 PM. The meeting minutes are posted to the “NK4AR Members” page of this web site after each meeting.

Please contact us to obtain the most current information about the club or meetings. Our email address is secretary@nk4ar.net.
